There are several stages of myopia: low (up to -3), medium (-3-6) and high (-6 and above). In latter case myopia is considered a disease, said an ophthalmologist of Ophthalmology Diagnostic Center “Optomed Canada” Varsik Hakobyan on Thursday during a press conference.

"Myopia cannot be cured by laser surgery, it just makes the corneas thinner. However, surgeries are a common and effective method to reduce myopia," the ophthalmologist explained.

According to her, if myopia already exists, it cannot disappear.

"There is a misconception that myopia is associated with puberty, with which it disappears. As for the astigmatism with age, it occurs to everybody," Hakobyan said.

"Currently, the most effective method is to use night lenses, which have a positive effect especially on children. Thanks to night lenses, one begins to see much better in the morning," - the ophthalmologist said.

She added, that despite the fact that the lenses are a foreign body to the eye, not very comfortable to wear, and the probability of infection is higher, night and optical lenses in most cases, are a salvation.
