Following the destruction by Turkey’s Malatya Municipality—and on February 2, 2012—of the guardhouse that was being built and of the funeral chapel at the Armenian cemetery in Malatya, they are being rebuilt and will soon be handed to the Armenian community of Malatya.  

The Malatya Municipality kept its promise and reconstructed the destroyed constructions, the Malatya local media report. Once the constructions are secured with electricity, water and natural gas, and the area is improved, they will be handed to HAYder, which represents the Armenian community of Malatya.

To note, the aforesaid guardhouse and funeral chapel were destroyed by the order of Malatya Municipality. This incident raised a storm of protest in Turkey and beyond, and, subsequently, the Malatya mayor claimed that the constructions were destroyed by mistake and promised to recover the damages on the account of the state.
