YEREVAN.- Armenia will continue to deepen its relations with Iran, Armenian presidential candidate, incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan said in the course of the Tuesday meeting with voters of Malatia-Sebastia administrative district of Yerevan.
According to him, Armenia respects the international sanctions, but will develop relations with Iran as much as possible. As an example of effective cooperation, president cited the example of construction of hydro power plants.
“We cannot cut off the one of the two arteries that gives us oxygen. This is just silly,” Sargsyan said, reminding of centuries-old relationship between Armenia and Iran.
Last November Iran and Armenia started construction of two hydro power plants on the bank of Araks River. One of the HPPs, constructed with Iran’s funding, will be transferred into full ownership of Armenia in 15 years.
