The United States of America respect human rights only in those countries that consider the interests of the United States of America, even if these countries do not have any democracy, said the Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mohammad Reis on a press conference this Tuesday, responding to a question about the impact on the economy of Iran of the sanctions of the West.

The Ambassador noted that after the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran, many Western countries, which had been deprived of leverage, began to organize the conspiracy.

“At first, they tried to organize internal disturbances, then triggered the Iran-Iraq war, which lasted eight years and due to which Iran has managed to retain all its territories. Immediately after the war, sanctions have been applied against Iran. The United States of America have been imposing sanctions on Iran for 34 years already. But I believe that these sanctions have helped us in many ways. I believe that we, perhaps, would not have achieved the successes in nuclear energy, nanotechnology, was it not due to the policy of the United States of America,” the Ambassador said.

According to the envoy, the U.S. sanctions, that are constantly claiming humanity, operate against ordinary citizens of Iran.

“They are trying to create intolerable conditions for the Iranians, thus hoping to provoke internal disturbances in Iran. But in Iran, as well as in Armenia, a high degree of political awareness exists, we cannot give in to the provocations of this kind,” Mohammad Reis stressed.

He added that the West applies double standards everywhere. For example, he said, they talk about human rights, but at the same time work closely with countries that have never held elections. In general, the head of the diplomatic mission said that Iran is ready for dialogue with the United States if Washington shows “good will.”

“Try to understand us as well, we have met three times, and three times we got a hit in the back. Meanwhile, I note that Iran remains true to the principles of international law on all issues,” he noted.
