Iran has warm relations both with former and incumbent Armenian Presidents. As Armenian former President Robert Kocharyan had a leading role in the thaw of bilateral relations, he paid a two-day visit to Iran at Iranian FM Manouchehr Mottaki’s invitation," Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Seyed Ali Saghaeyan stated in Feb. 19 interview, commenting on Kocharyan’s last visit to Iran.

Referring to Armenian-Iranian relations, Saghaeyan said recently the 9th sitting of the Armenian-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission was held, chaired by Iranian FM Manouchehr Mottaki and RA Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan. The parties considered the building of the 3th high-voltage power line, operation of Iran-Armenia gas pipeline, as well as the construction of a new railway and motor highway. Free trade agreement is expected to be signed between Armenia and Iran, which will expand economic cooperation, Saghaeyan said.
