YEREVAN.- Iranian Foreign Ministry did not confirm the reports that during the meeting with Iranian FM Ali Akbar Salehi, President Serzh Sargsyan allegedly said interference of external powers into Syrian affairs brought to continuation of violence and killings and led to aggravation of the situation.

In response to inquiry by the Armenian News-NEWS.am, Iranian Foreign Ministry advised that the text of an official statement must be studied.

The official statement posted on the website of Iranian MFA reads:

“During the meeting in the Armenian capital on Monday, the Iranian foreign minister pointed to the friendly ties between Tehran and Yerevan, and said, "There is a need for the further exploitation of the existing capacities in a bid to boost our mutual cooperation."

Salehi, who is in Armenia to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Sargsian, conveyed the felicitation message of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to his Armenian counterpart on the occasion of his reelection for a second five-year term.

On 14 March 2013, Armenia's Constitutional Court confirmed the victory of President Sargsian who won the presidential election on February 18.

The Armenian president, for his part, described Iran-Armenia relations as special, hoping for the development of bilateral ties in different economic, trade and cultural areas.

The Iranian foreign minister, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Yerevan on Monday evening.

Salehi is slated to hold talks with Armenian officials on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of President Sargsian in Yerevan.”
