Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on Wednesday met with his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski in Warsaw.Bilateral cooperation and the situation in the South Caucasus were the main topics of a meeting.

During the visit, the ministers discussed Armenia’s position before the November summit of the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius.

Minister Radosław Sikorski said he was confident that Poland will continue to support Armenia’s European aspirations. At the same time, the chief of Poland’s diplomacy stressed that the Armenian government’s decision to join the Customs Union formed by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan has complicated the initialing of the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement with the EU. He also underscored that Poland does not back the idea of signing only the political part of this package, Poland MFA’s  tatement said.

During his visit to Warsaw, Nalbandian noted that Armenia wants to deepen its cooperation with the EU as much as possible, but “it cannot be at the expense of our allied relations with Russia.”

He added that Armenia and Russia are bound by a military alliance and a privileged economic cooperation, especially concerning energy, which justifies the declaration made in Moscow by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Armenia's accession to the Russia-Kazakhstan-Belarus Customs Union. 

During the meeting, it was agreed that Armenia will continue its cooperation with the European Union as far as possible and feasible.
