YEREVAN. – The adoption of the French bill on criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide is highly unlikely, since the interests of many parties conflict here. 

Diplomat.am Director, Ambassador Arman Navasardyan noted the aforesaid during a press conference on Tuesday. 

Navasardyan spoke about the likelihood of removing this bill from the agenda of the French parliament.   

In his conviction, a well-developed diplomatic game is played both by previous and incumbent French Presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande, respectively.   

“Sarkozy was able to make excellent moves in the Istanbul-Yerevan-Paris triangle. I do not believe that this law can be passed,” Navasardyan noted.  

But he also stressed that this should not affect Armenian-French relations. 

In turn the other speaker of the press conference, Modus Vivendi Center Director, Ambassador Ara Papyan specifically noted as follows: 

“I, too, do not think that removing this bill will affect Armenian-French relations in any way, since its initiator is the Armenian community of France.”  

As per Papyan, it would be right if France put forth the matter of liability and restitution of property, instead of attempting to have a bearing on France-Turkey interstate relations.
