New round of sanctions against Iran will be taken up by UN Security Council in the near future, U.S. President Barack Obama said at a joint press conference with his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy.

“My hope is that we are going to get this done this spring. So I'm not interested in waiting months for a sanctions regime to be in place, I’ interested in seeing that regime in place in weeks,” RFE/RL quotes U.S. president as saying.

Obama also stated that they left door open for Iran to negotiate. “The door remains open if the Iranians choose to walk through it,” he added.

In his turn French President noted that Iran cannot continue its mad race and it is time to take decisions, BBC reports.
