April 4, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Mexican Baja California state, killing one person, Associated Press reports.

According to U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake epicenter was 30 km south-east of the city of Mexicali. Later a swarm of aftershocks with 3.6, 3.8 and 5.1 magnitude shook the area, 70-140 km east-north of the city of Tijuana. The number of the injured is being clarified.

Some parts of the city face power cuts, suspended telephone service and damaged highways. The quake caused panic among the residents of the city. Many fear to return to their homes.
