YEREVAN. – If West needs to disarm any country, it might be Israel, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia said.
“The Zionist regime of Israel is interested in maintaining tension in the region. For twenty years we hear Israeli lies that Iran is ready to produce nuclear weapons. Iran is a member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, but Israel has not signed it so far. Therefore, if the West needs to think about the disarmament of any country, then, first of all, it must be Israel,” Mohammad Reisi said.
He noted that the people of Iran do not trust the Western powers feeling there are double standards.
“If mutual obligations of Iran and the six powers are performed in Geneva, the trust to the West will gradually increase,” the diplomat emphasized.
Tehran opposes nuclear weapons from political and strategic viewpoints, Reisi said, adding that nuclear weapons would never ensure security of any state.
“Iran is well aware of what are weapons of mass destruction, since the country became one of its victims during the imposed eight-year long war with Iraq,” the Ambassador emphasized.
In this regard, he assured, Iran fully agrees with the agreements reached in Geneva with the countries of the six world power that recognize the right of Iran to the peaceful atom.
He added that one of the priorities for the Iranian leadership, headed by President Rouhani, is a long-term mitigation of tensions with the West, while protecting the rights of the Iranian nation to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.
