The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) will reexamine the Sargsyan-Chiragov case. 

Armenian Prosecutor General’s spokesperson Kristine Melkonyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that Prosecutor General, Armenia’s representative to the ECtHR Gevorg Kostanyan, and the delegation led by him, will travel to Strasbourg, France, on January 21, to attend the respective ECtHR session.     

In 2010, the ECtHR started examining the Armenian Sargsyan family’s lawsuit filed against Azerbaijan for the first time.

In 2006, Minas Sargsyan—a former resident of Gyulistan village of Shahumyan Region in Northern Karabakh—filed a lawsuit against the demolition of his house and their forcible expulsion from their place of residence. Even though Minas Sargsyan has passed away since, his widow and children continue to follow the judicial process.       

It is noteworthy that, on the same day, the ECtHR also started examining a group of Azerbaijanis lawsuit (Chiragov and others vs. Armenia) filed against Armenia.  

These cases are considered the prototype of similar lawsuits.
