YEREVAN. – The indirect debate between Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan and incumbent Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan is similar to giving testimony against each other.  

Opposition Heritage Party Board Secretary Stiopa Safaryan noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Tuesday.

In Safaryan’s words, in reality, both of them do not deny that the “balloon is inflated.”

“But in this case, one accuses the other of inflating the balloon, whereas the other [accuses the other] of blowing up the balloon. [But] it is more important that the balloon is inflated and blown up. 

“The topic whereby they are attempting to ‘get dividends’ is doomed to fail because one person is not  the guilty, and all subjects were in one ‘body’ in the past,” Safaryan noted.

He added that, for the most part, this debate simply entertains others.  

Heritage’s official stated that the conflict between Robert Kocharyan and serving President Serzh Sargsyan was “staged” numerous times, but it had no repercussions at all previous times.   

“Therefore I do not think that it will have an end this time, as well. I doubt that Kocharyan would transfer this debate to his and Serzh Sargsyan’s level,” the opposition member said.    

He also expressed a view that Robert Kocharyan wants to have the Office of the PM become vacant. 

“He has not concealed in the past that he, too, can be considered at that candidacy,” Stiopa Safaryan concluded.
