YEREVAN. – Armenia’s internal political situation is not hopeless, said ddirector of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan.
Unlike in Azerbaijan, Belarus, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, situation in Armenia cannot be called hopeless as there are contradictions, competition and ability to voice everything.
“We lack only one thing – political parties. What we have today, are not parties, but rather clubs. For example, the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, is a kind of “a union of officials”. If you want career growth, you need to join the Republican Party,” Iskandaryan told reporters.
Asked about internal contradictions within the ruling party, Iskandaryan noted that with the absence of an external threat the Republican Party is no longer a monolith.
RPA feels comfortable because of the absence of any outside threats, but different groups with different interests are being formed within the party.
