YEREVAN. – It is unclear how a representative of the opposition can be a part of the executive power, stated chairman Vladimir Karapetyan of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC).

Karapetyan commented on opposition ARF Dashnaktsutyun Party member Vahan Hovhannisyan’s recent appointment as Armenia’s Ambassador to Germany.

In his words, however, unlike the rest of the ambassadors being appointed, Hovhannisyan is at least recognized in Armenia.

“We have had quite experienced ambassadors in Germany, and I believe that has created a certain foundation for the work of the new diplomats,” the ANC official noted.

But, in his view, the ARF should give a political assessment on Hovhannisyan’s appointment.

“And as a person with a work experience at the EuroNest [Parliamentary Assembly] and in other European institutions, I believe he can bring benefit to the country,” Vladimir Karapetyan added.

President Serzh Sargsyan had signed a decree, on December 28, 2013, on appointing ARF’s now former MP Vahan Hovhannisyan as Armenia’s Ambassador to Germany.
