ISTANBUL. – The Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office instructed the police to arrest several officials, in connection with the new case on the fight against corruption, but the police refused to carry out this instruction, Milliyet daily of Turkey reports.
In response, the prosecutor’s office filed a complaint with the General Prosecutor’s Office.
In their turn, the police filed a lawsuit against the prosecutor who had given the instruction for the arrests, and they claimed that the instruction was unlawful.
On December 17, 2013, the Istanbul police arrested numerous influential individuals, within the framework of a corruption scandal, and these arrests caused many members of the Turkish government to hand in their resignation. And following these arrests, several hundred police chiefs were either dismissed from their duties or appointed to another position.
