The death toll in China’s Qinghai earthquake reached 400, Xinhua agency reports.

At least 400 people were killed and 8.000 others wounded after a 7.1 magnitude quake hit north-western Qinghai Province of China, deputy secretary-general of the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture government Huang Limin said.

Many people are still buried under the debris of collapsed buildings. More than 85% of the houses in Gyegu town collapsed.

“We lack tents, medical equipment, medicine and medical workers,” a local official said.

The earthquake led to the cut of telecommunications and damaged highways to the local airport.
