YEREVAN. – In case of EU, the real willingness to intervene in the situation in Ukraine at the level of sanctions is not seen, head of the European programs of the International Renaissance Foundation Dmitry Shulga said.
Shulga joined the Yerevan-hosted discussion on situation in Ukraine via a video conference.
The expert said there are no real negotiations between the opposition and president Yanukovych.
“People on Maidan in their actions are out of control of the opposition forces, but I do not think it’s a final stage. What is happening now is not predicted by anyone. No one expects any fair presidential elections in Ukraine. With such laws passed, it is simply unreal,” Shulga added.
On 16 January, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved documents restricting user access to Internet resources on the basis of expert opinions. In addition, criminal liability was introduced for libel and desecration of monuments. In response, for the third consecutive day, a few thousand nationalists continue pogroms in the center of Kyiv.
