YEREVAN. – The Armenian Government-Affiliated General Department of Civil Aviation (GDCA) will conduct a monitoring this spring at the airport of Stepanakert, capital city of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.   

The inspection will be carried out to find out the extent in which the airport meets the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, GDCA Head Artyom Movsesyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.  

“Last year we had found some technical deficiencies which our colleagues have promised to eliminate. We will go this spring to make sure, once and for all, that the airport is technically ready to accept flights,” Movsesyan said.

To the query as to why GDCA, and not ICAO, is conducting this inspection, the GDCA chief responded that the Stepanakert airport is not yet registered by ICAO. 

“[But] the work can pass to a similar format after certain processes,” Artyom Movsesyan noted.
