YEREVAN. – Following the incident on January 20, certain tension is observed at the military positions of Azerbaijan.
Defense Minister of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, stated the aforesaid at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.
Ohanyan added that the unease of the adversary is associated with the expectation of response actions.
He explained that there is tension not solely at the Karabakh positions, where the abovementioned incident had taken place, but at the northwestern direction, too.
“The attacks by the Azerbaijanis were repelled owing to the self-sacrifice by Junior Sergeant Armen Hovhannisyan and his friends at arms. Any aggression by the adversary will receive a fitting counterblow,” the minister stressed.
He also noted that the Armenian side does not respond to random shots being fired, but rather solely to the sniper and the coordinated shots.
The diversionary teams of Azerbaijan had attempted to carry out two simultaneous infiltrations at the line of contact between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing forces. The attempts were recorded at around between 11:50pm on January 19 and 12:15am on January 20. As a result of the ensuing skirmish, Junior Sergeant Armen Hovhannisyan was killed at a military position, and from the gunshot wound he had sustained from the adversary.
