YEREVAN. – After a second attempt, it was decided that Armenia will observe Students’ Day on May 16.  

The respective decision was made at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.

The draft decision was submitted last week. But following PM Tigran Sargsyan’s remarks that there already are too many holidays in Armenia in the month of May, the draft decision was returned for amendment. 

But Education and Science Minister Armen Ashotyan informed at the government session that May 16 was chosen as the date for the establishment of Yerevan State University (YSU), which is Armenia’s oldest institution of higher education. The YSU will celebrate its 95th anniversary this year.   

As per the Government of Armenia, unlike the International Students’ Day, which is observed annually on November 17, the Armenian students should have their own day.
