Armenia appreciates Czech Republic’s constructive stance on Nagorno-Karabakh that is support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group, Armenian president said.
Serzh Sargsyan recalled that after a two-year break he met with his Azerbaijani counterpart in Vienna, describing it as a positive move.
During his joint media conference with Czech counterpart Milos Zeman, President Sargsyan said the high level meetings are an important incentive for the promotion of talks within the OSCE Minsk Group, the only format on Karabakh settlement. Over the past five years the presidents of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing states – Russia, the U.S. and France – adopted statements the principles and provisions of which are a good background for a fair solution to the conflict.
“We share the view of co-chairing states that the principles and provisions should be considered as a whole. The attempts to give priority to any of the principles will make it impossible to achieve compromise and settlement of the conflict,” Sargsyan assured.
Armenian leader emphasized that solution to the conflict is not feasible unless Azerbaijan abandons militarist rhetoric, stops the arms race and provocations at the line of contact. It is time for Azerbaijani side to display a constructive approach to the issue of resolving the conflict peacefully, Sargsyan said, adding that Armenia expects the international community’s unbiased approach.
Sargsyan and Zeman shared the view that regional conflict should be resolved peacefully through negotiations.
