YEREVAN. – Armenian Defense Ministry dismissed involvement of the Armenian armed forces in the death of Azerbaijani soldier.
“No such incident was registered on Armenia-Azerbaijan border over the last 24 hours. The Armenian armed forces observe ceasefire. Let the Azerbaijani side look for the reasons in its army,” spokesperson for Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
In turn, spokesperson for Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Ministry Senor Hasratyan said the units of the Defense Army are committed to respecting ceasefire regime.
“The Karabakh forces have never played a role of instigators of the incidents,” Hasratyan added.
On Friday morning Azerbaijani media said that “solider Eshghin Guliyev was killed by a sniper while performing a combat mission” on Thursday evening. By the decree of Azerbaijani Defense Minister he was awarded posthumously.
However, the death of Azerbaijani soldier happened in unclear circumstances. The Azerbaijani defense ministry for certain reasons is not naming the direction (border with Armenia, or line of contact with NKR) where the solider was allegedly killed. Besides, it is unclear what “combat mission” he was performing.
The mysterious circumstances of the death of Azerbaijani soldier suggest another provocation from the Azerbaijani side. Most likely, the solider was killed not “on Thursday evening” but much earlier, during one of the failed attempts of act of sabotage. Now when the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group called on the parties to respect Olympic truce, Azerbaijan revealed its “skeleton from the cupboard” with an obvious goal to defame Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
