KYIV. – A total of 28 people have been killed ever since the beginning of the riots in capital city Kyiv, reports the official website of the Health Ministry of Ukraine.

Between Tuesday 10am and Thursday 6am, a total of 445 people have sought medical assistance, and 287 have been hospitalized as a result of this week’s standoff between police and protesters in Kyiv. A total of 88 police, six journalists, four minors, two foreigners, and an MP—who claims that he was beaten—from the opposition Batkivshchyna (All-Ukrainian Union “Fatherland”) Party were among those hospitalized.

The protests in Ukraine are in full swing since last November, and a new wave of unrest broke out in Kyiv on Tuesday.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, however, a peace accord was reached between the opposition and President Viktor Yanukovych.

The authorities have promised to stop the assault on Kyiv’s EuroMaidan.

But the ultra-right wing group called Right Sector refused to accept the peace deal, calling it a “fake.”
