YEREVAN. – If parking areas are not allocated for the cab drivers in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan in a foreseeable future, these drivers will hold protest demonstrations.

Tigran Hovhannisyan, head of the Drivers’ Defense League, stated the aforesaid at a press conference on Monday.
“We will not pay any fines unless the parking area problem is solved. We ask for a special treatment for the taxi drivers; we solely will pay the speed detector fines,” Hovhannisyan added.

In their turn, several cab drivers complained that they are often fined while waiting for their clients, and the amount of these fines is too much for their pockets.

In the views of the Drivers’ Defense League and the taxi drivers, this matter will be resolved if Yerevan Municipality allocates parking areas for the cab drivers.

In their words, around 300 parking areas are needed for around 15,000 taxi drivers in Yerevan, whereas only a few such areas operate at present.
