YEREVAN. – There are no similarities between the March 1, 2008 events in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan and the events in the Ukrainian Maidan, and there can be no Maidan in Armenia.   

Opposition Armenian National Congress National Assembly (ANC NA) Faction MP, former Military Prosecutor Gagik Jhangiryan stated the aforesaid Wednesday at the NA, in response to a query by opposition Freedom Party Chairman, ex-presidential candidate, former PM, MP Hrant Bagratyan.   

Jhangiryan added that Bagratyan is a member in the ANC NA Faction, and therefore he should be well aware of the view by ANC leader—and First President—Levon Ter-Petrosyan that such a large anti-Russian outburst cannot take place in Armenia.

“I share this view by the ANC leader,” Gagik Jhangiryan said.        

“The people in Maidan expressed the will of the people. The people are entitled to express their will in Armenia, too. I don’t think that a Maidan is impossible in Armenia; this should not be accepted as a phenomenon which is directed absolutely against the Russians,” Bagratyan responded.
