YEREVAN. – Armenia’s opposition Heritage Party National Assembly (NA) Faction Secretary Tevan Poghosyan considered the most recent NA sessions to be successful because, according to him, the opposition dictated 90 percent of the sessions’’ agenda.
“For the most part, our initiatives were discussed during the entire four-day [sessions]. We could say that 90 percent of the matters [raised] was ours. [But] we certainly cannot see to it that 90 percent of our tabled proposals passes,” Poghosyan said.
In his words, it is not easy for the opposition to resolve matters in the parliament because, “The [parliamentary] majority conducts a policy of whim.”
To the reporters’ queries that, in that case, why does the opposition not resort to drastic measures, and whether a Ukrainian Maidan is possible in Armenia, Heritage’s MP responded as follows:
“Do we have enough human resource to resolve the matter through bloodshed? Of course we don’t. [But] can we solve the issue with ideological resource? Yes, we can. In that case, why should we resolve the issue by smashing one another? We can achieve a change in power through talks.”
