YEREVAN. – The health condition of Mamikon Khojoyan remains the same: stable, but severe. 

Ara Minasyan, Director of Surb Grigor Lusavorich (Saint Gregory the Illuminator) Medical Center of Armenia’s capital city Yerevan, told the aforesaid to Armeian News-NEWS.am. 

Minasyan noted that Khojoyan is at the Intensive Care Unit, and he is undergoing medical examinations.

“He is still in severe condition, he can’t speak, his memory is not restored, he is in a neurosis, a depressive condition; he needs to come out of that situation a bit so we may operate him,” he said.        

Ara Minasyan added that Khojoyan will undergo surgery next week.

Mamikon Khojoyan, 77, a resident of Verin Karmiraghbyur village of Armenia’s Tavush Region, was taken captive by Azerbaijan on January 28. He suffers from mental illness. Azerbaijan returned the elderly to Armenia on Tuesday. Preliminary medical examination, however, revealed that Khojoyan has multiple fractures and injuries as well as numerous wounds and cracks. All the injuries indicate that he was tortured while in captivity.
