YEREVAN. – Customs Union is beneficial for Armenia and joining it first of all is directed on ensuring Armenia's security, analyst Gagik Harutyunyan said.
He believes there have been no haste in Armenia's moves towards joining Customs Union.
“It is very difficult to separate economic component from the political and military ones. Unfortunately, no other states, except for Russia, guarantee security of Armenia,” he said.
Harutyunyan, head of Noravank center, recalled that Armenia and Russia have been allies in some formats for already 200 years. He added that Armenia's leadership managed to combine Customs Union integration with relatively high level relations with Europe and U.S.
Armenia announced its intention to join Customs Union last September after the talks between presidents of Armenia and Russia in Moscow. The roadmap on Armenia’s accession to Customs Union was signed on December 24.
