YEREVAN. – Consolidation of political parties is a global trend and once Armenian parties will take this path,  spokesman for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia told reporters.

Eduard Sharmazanov, who is also deputy speaker of the parliament, said the ruling party always supported “political and healthy struggle”.

“I do not exclude that we can follow the lead of a number of democratic countries and form two political poles – the Republican Party of Armenia and a second pole, including small parties that could consolidate with Prosperous Armenia. We are positive about such alliances,”  he told reporters on Thursday.

Sharmazanov suggested shifting to two-party system: the Republican Party of Armenia and a party bringing together the smaller ones.

Asked whether four non-coalition parliamentary forces have their leader, Sharmazanov noted that they should elect a leader by their own, and they have time till the next elections in 2017.
