YEREVAN. – The Politologists’ Union of Armenia (PUA) is preparing to file a petition with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) because, as per the organization, it is being politically prosecuted.

“The political persecution—which began with the PUA chairman’s participation in the 2012 NA [i.e., National Assembly] elections with the election list of the [non-pro-government] Prosperous Armenia Party and his coordinating of the activities of the united electoral headquarter, which caused [PUA Chairman] Hmayak Hovhannisyan to give up his parliamentary mandate, which was marked by the destruction of the PUA Central Office entrance—is entering the important milestone of reaching the European Court.

“This case comes to yet again expose the arsenal of the use of the judicial system for political retributions, to show the authorities’ longing for conducting an oversight on the public political activity in Armenia, [and] in the case of the insufficiency of this longing, the inevitability of judicial prosecutions,” stated the Politologists’ Union of Armenia press service.
