YEREVAN. – Russia failed to become a dominant economic superpower and an ideological hegemony. Now, and by way of the fear factor, it is attempting to not yield its positions once and for all.
Armenia’s opposition Free Democrats Party Vice-Chairwoman Anush Sedrakyan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Monday, as she reflected on the ongoing crisis over Ukraine.
In her view, Russian President Vladimir Putin is suffering an apparent defeat in his own country.
“His challenge is to bring the war out of Russia’s borders; that is, to design the image of an external enemy: the Ukrainians, the Americans. All these are elements of the Cold War,” Sedrakyan stressed.
Comparing the current situation in the world with the Cuban Missile Crisis—i.e., the thirteen-day confrontation in October 1962 between the ex-Soviet Union and Cuba—, she expressed a view, however, that there will not be a third world war.
“But if Russia continues its expansion, the West will not sacrifice Ukraine,” the Free Democrats Party vice-chairwoman noted.
