YEREVAN. – The Justice Academy of Armenia officially opened Tuesday in capital city Yerevan, and President Serzh Sargsyan attended the event (PHOTOS).

The Republic of Armenia is the founder of the academy, and its activities will be headed by a rector, who will be elected for a five-year term.

A total of 850 million drams (approx. $2,045,715) were spent on the construction of the academy.

At the opening ceremony, Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasyan stressed that the main objective of the institution is to accurately assess the candidates for judges and prosecutors in Armenia.  

For his part, Academy Rector Ruben Melikyan stated that the primary goal of the Justice Academy is to implement a single educational policy for judges and prosecutors. 

The training course for the judge and prosecutor candidates will last 8.5 months.

Before the founding of the Justice Academy of Armenia, respective schools trained judges and prosecutors in the country.
