YEREVAN. – The Armenian government must take into consideration the civil society's opinion on pension reform, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said during government's meeting on Wednesday.

He called on “I am against” movement to start dialogue and expressed willingness to discuss the reform of the pension system. Sargsyan said civil society is being formed in Armenia and makes its own rules. The government should take this into account and to contribute to its development and formation.

PM recalled that many written proposals have been received from  the youth which indicates protesters' readiness to exchange views.

“This means 'I am against' can turn into a movement that will work for the benefit of Armenia,” he added.

The new funded pension plan, which formally came into force in Armenia on January 1, 2014, is mandatory for those born in and after 1974 and voluntary for those born before 1974. In line with this plan, 5 to 10 percent of the monthly salaries in Armenia will be deducted and mandatorily be allocated to cumulative pension funds; the latter will be reimbursed as pensions once a person turns 63 years old.

The reform was not supported by the citizens and provoked a series of rallies as well as creation of 'I am against' movement.
