A State Duma (parliament) member proposed the authorities of Crimea to return the historical name of the peninsula.

It seems, however, that the Crimeans are not very fond of this suggestion.

It is reported that the person behind this proposal is Liberal Democratic Party Duma Faction member Mikhail Degtyarev.

He wrote a letter to Speaker Vladimir Konstatinov of the Crimean Parliament, and proposed to envision the second name, Tavrida, for the peninsula, Izvestia daily reported.

As per the Russian MP, returning the name Tavrida “will connect the entire history of Crimea once and for all” and “it will be in line with the [Russian] president’s [recent] message.”

Degtyarev is confident that his colleagues will respond positively to his initiative.
