YEREVAN. – The UK does not agree that referendum in Crimea is manifestation of free will of people, but welcomes Armenian president's position that Ukrainian crisis must be solved according to UN Charter and norms of international law.

The UK, as a member state of European Union, is committed to relations with Armenia, Ambassador Kathy Leach told the correspondents of Armenian News-NEWS.am and 168 Zham.

She noted that despite the decision as of September 3 on Armenia's joining Customs Union, UK is doing everything to support Armenia to counter economic and other challenges, adding they want Armenia to state clear position how they can help.

As reported earlier, the Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation on Wednesday. They touched upon the situation created after the referendum in Crimea, and noted this as another example of the exercising of the people’s right to self-determination through free expression of will. They also underscored the importance of following international norms and principles, and first and foremost, the UN Charter.
