YEREVAN. – Due to the adverse weather conditions in Armenia in the past two days, about 90 percent of the apricots are damaged, and the apricot farmers suffered losses worth $25-30 million. 

Agrarian-Peasant Union of Armenia Chairman Hrach Berberyan told the above-said to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Berberyan informed that the aforementioned weather conditions caused damage to the trees whose flowers had already blossomed, and these were almond, cherry, and apricot trees.

“The damages started when there was a hailstorm two days ago; there was a complete frost last night, [but] the snow did the main thing,” Berberyan said.

The expert stressed, however, that everything must be done to properly harvest the other crops. 

He added that the Agriculture Ministry had taken all the precautions this year.

“But nature did its thing; no one could do anything against nature,” Hrach Berberyan concluded.
