Russia's further intervention in Ukraine will be a historic mistake, NATO chief said on Wednesday.

Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the move will have far reaching consequences for the relations between Russia and the Western world. He said it would be miscalculation with grave strategic implications.

Speaking about Russia's statements, he said Moscow seems to re-establish influence in post-Soviet area.

Rasmussen noted that the Alliance is not discussing military options while finding solution to the Ukrainian crisis.
