YEREVAN. – As long as the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) is not a democratic structure, the consolidation of the four non-ruling-coalition parliamentary forces cannot become a democratic initiative.
Opposition National Self-Determination Union (NSU) Chairman, ex-presidential candidate Paruyr Hayrikyan stated the above-said at a press conference on Thursday.
Hayrikyan explained that PAP cannot become a democratic force, since it always has stated that it recognizes but one president [i.e., incumbent Serzh Sargsyan], and it shall remain as such.
According to him, if the four forces have agreed on a matter, this means the latter is very important.
“But if this matter is important, it is unclear why the tabling [at the National Assembly] of a no-confidence motion to the government is deferred for one month.
“These political forces could have carried out this task tomorrow. [But] if they are not doing this, it means the matter is not so important [for them],” the NSU leader said.
He also stated that if these forces’ demand is anchored in the PM’s resignation alone, this demand not only has no real prospect, but it cannot be essential to politics in Armenia.
