make preferableYEREVAN. – Although they state that now former Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan had decided to resign one month ago, he was “forced” to resign.
Opposition Armenian National Congress bloc National Assembly (ANC NA) Faction member Lyudmila Sargsyan stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Friday.
“It was forced from 26 Baghramian [Avenue, which is the official address of the Presidential Palace]. During the Cabinet meeting yesterday [Thursday] morning, Tigran Sargsyan didn’t even know that he would resign on the same day,” the opposition MP said.
She argued that the pressure by the four non-ruling-coalition NA factions—i.e., Armenian National Congress, Prosperous Armenia, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, and Heritage—and the “Dem.Am [I am against]” civic initiative—which opposes the mandatory component of the new pension law in Armenia—impacted such a decision.
“The shortcomings in Armenia have nothing to do with Tigran Sargsyan. The real culprit is [President] Serzh Sargsyan, and a complete change in power remains the main objective of our faction.
“[But] our plans will not change. Serzh Sargsyan performed the first step in our plans. Serzh Sargsyan helped us pass to the next phase; that is, achieving early parliamentary and presidential elections,” the ANC deputy added.
In addition, Lyudmila Sargsyan congratulated the Armenian people on Tigran Sargsyan’s resignation.
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan on Thursday offered his resignation to President Serzh Sargsyan, and the President approved the PM’s resignation.
