YEREVAN. – The “Dem.Am [I am against]” civic initiative, which opposes the mandatory component of the new pension law in Armenia, will hold a rally on April 12 in downtown capital city Yerevan, and explain to those in attendance how to fight for their rights. 

Initiative member Davit Manukyan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Saturday.

“Unfortunately, we also need to fight for the execution of the Constitutional Court’s [CC] decision in our country.
“Therefore, we are holding a rally on April 12, during which we will discuss how to continue the fight and what will be the direction of our struggle,” Manukyan said, in particular.

“Dem.Am,” however, will not sit idle until April 12. They have planned projects for the coming week, but they did not wish to speak about them just yet.

In the words of the civic movement members, although the CC deemed the new funded pension law unconstitutional, the antisocial demand is still there, and this demand is not met as of yet.    

The CC on Wednesday deemed unconstitutional a whole series of articles in the new Law on Funded Pensions, which were contested with a lawsuit by the four non-ruling-coalition parliamentary factions.

The CC gave the parliament and the government until September 30 to amend the aforesaid law’s provisions that were considered unconstitutional. In addition, all the mandatory pension deductions which already were made shall be reviewed.   

On Thursday, however, CC President Gagik Harutyunyan stated that the law will continue to be in force until September 30. Now ex-PM Tigran Sargsyan likewise noted the same at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting.
