YEREVAN. – Caucasus Institute Deputy Director, political analyst Sergey Minasyan believes that Armenian former Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan’s resignation is not linked to external pressure.   

At a press conference on Tuesday, Minasyan recalled that Sargsyan has a substantial work experience with the Western financial institutions.   

“In a short time, however, he was able to accelerate the [Russia-led] Customs Union [CU] accession process [of Armenia],” the analyst noted.  

He added that Armenia’s CU accession depended on the political decision by the authorities, and Sargsyan would hardly have had problems with the Russian side.   

As per Minasyan, President Serzh Sargsyan made the decision to enter into the CU, and both the former and the serving PMs of Armenia carry out the will of the country’s leader.

“Tigran Sargsyan’s resignation was 99.9 percent due to domestic politics and the societal situation,” the analyst stated.
