YEREVAN. – Turkey must recognize the historical facts. 

Congressman Eliot Engel, who is member of the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, told the aforementioned to reporters Thursday at the Armenian Genocide Memorial in capital city Yerevan, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informed.

“Even though there are Congress members from different [political] parties at the committee, we share the same view on the Genocide issue,” Engel said adding that the committee has repeatedly adopted resolutions on this matter.

“The American people recognize the fact of the Genocide, and Turkey likewise should recognize these facts,” the congressman stated.  

According to Engel, the American-Armenian community, which takes steps toward Genocide recognition, works actively. 

He noted that the US Congress members are in Armenia as friends, and they stand ready to assist.  

“We stand with the Armenian people,” Congressman Eliot Engel said.
