YEREVAN. – The post-Soviet history is over; the post-Soviet space, whose main elements were a part of the CIS, is changing, and a new world order is being formed.   

Armenia’s Caucasus Institute Director, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Tuesday.

In Iskandaryan’s conviction, the situation in and around Ukraine is similar to the events that took place in Georgia between 1993 and 1994.

“Ukraine has a very great importance to our entire region. Russia’s role in the region is changing; specifically, the Russian-western and the Russia-CIS relations are different.

“The first omen of changes appeared last year on September 3 in Moscow, at the meeting of the presidents of Armenia and Russia [during which Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan announced about Armenia’s intention to become a member in the Russia-led Customs Union],” Iskandaryan noted. 

The analyst stressed that this event likewise was related to Ukraine.
