YEREVAN. – Within the framework of Armenia’s Russia-led Customs Union (CU) accession process, Finance Minister Gagik Khachatryan on Tuesday met—in capital city Yerevan—with the heads of the Russian and Georgian customs services.

The parties discussed the peculiarities of the formalities for the transit of goods and products between Armenia and Russia, and via Georgia, the Finance Ministry press service informed.

The discussants decided to set up respective working groups and to present a list of matters that need to be resolved. 
Khachatryan stressed that they primarily conferred on those problems that might arise during Armenia’s CU accession process.

“As a result of [Armenia’s] CU membership, we expect a growth in the volume of goods circulation. We agreed to work in coordinated fashion, so that the necessary information becomes available at the customs checkpoints before the crossing of the border,” the minister added.  

Andrey Belyaninov, Head of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation, stressed that Armenia is ready to become a full member in the CU and respective work has already been carried out.

“There is no obstacle in the way of Armenia’s CU accession process. We are working in this direction very actively,” he noted. 

Belyaninov stressed that Armenia, Russia, and Georgia have the corresponding potential to effectively  organize the respective activities. 

For his part, Irakli Gvaramadze, Head of the Revenue Service of Georgia, expressed willingness for effective collaboration in all the presented directions.
