YEREVAN. – The decision on sale of Vorotan hydroelectric power plant to the American side is in force, Deputy Energy Minister Areg Galstyan told reporters on Wednesday.

The Armenian government and American Contour Global are satisfied with the terms of the deal, including the price of $180 million.

“I cannot name the exact date when the amount will be allocated, but no one is going to abandon the deal. The government is committed to implement all investment programs, and they will be implemented as the Vorotan Hydro Cascade will become more profitable,” Galstyan said.

A $180-million deal is the largest U.S. private investment in Armenia’s history and the first U.S. investment in Armenia’s critical energy sector.

The agreement on the sale of the Vorotan Hydro Cascade—which is a series of three hydroelectric power plants— was signed in January.
