YEREVAN. – The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) of Armenia had received an distress call on Thursday at 6:51am.

Accordingly, a vehicle had fallen into a valley in Alaverdi city of the Lori Region, those in the car had fallen into the river, and rescuers were needed.

An operative team, two fire and rescue squads, and five water rescuers were dispatched to the scene, the MES Rescue Service informed.

It was found out that a VAZ 21011-model vehicle had gone off road on the Vanadzor-Alaverdi Highway and fallen into the Debed River.

Search and rescue operations began along the river for the car’s passengers A. T., 25, and A. B., 31, whom the river had driven.

The firefighters and rescue workers discovered A. B.’s dead body in the river, nearby Sanahin Railway Station, and the water rescuers removed the body from the river on the same day.     

A. T., however, has not yet been found, but the search and rescue operations are still in progress.
