YEREVAN. – Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s announcement is the testimony of the important victory Armenia has achieved in the Karabakh issue, ruling Republican Party MP Gagik Minasyan said at a press conference on Tuesday.
In Minasyan’s words, if Armenia’s borders are indicated with preconditions on the international level, this means that the view, according to which Nagorno-Karabakh is a part of Armenia, has strengthened.
“When we say Armenia, we likewise mean the Republic of Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. And what does Nazarbayev’s statement say? It turns out that it should be clarified in the international documents whether or not Nagorno-Karabakh enters into Armenia. This is one of the greatest achievements of the past 20-25 years,” the MP added.
Gagik Minasyan also stressed that Armenia has always been—and will continue to be—a common economic space with Nagorno-Karabakh.
The treaty on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union was signed, in the Kazakh capital city Astana on May 29, by the leaders of Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. In addition, Armenia President Serzh Sargsyan participated in the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council and offered to sign a treaty on Armenia’s Union accession by no later than June 15.
In response, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev spoke about the letter by Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev calling to accept Armenia into the Eurasian Union only within the limits of the country’s internationally recognized borders, and not including Nagorno-Karabakh. But Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his part, stressed the need to sign a respective document with Armenia in the shortest period of time.
