YEREVAN. – The opposition MP highlighted necessity of holding parliamentary hearings in connection with the statement by Kazakhstan president Nazarbayev and tense situation on the border with Azerbaijan.

Nikol Pashinyan noted that border tension may be linked particularly to the statement made by Nazarbayev on May 29 in Astana that inspired Azerbaijan.

“Although Kazakhstan is our CSTO ally, their leader does not feel any responsibility and is making statements threatening life of our servicemen,” Pashinyan said.

In this context, opposition MP urged to hold parliamentary hearings during which Armenian Foreign Minister would brief the lawmakers on mutual obligations of CSTO and official position of Armenia regarding the meeting of Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana.

Speaker Galust Sahakyan agreed that an unbiased discussion is needed. He noted that Prosperous Armenia secretary Naira Zohrabyan had sent an inquiry to the foreign ministry.

“You will be free to ask foreign minister on Wednesday when the Cabinet members will answer lawmakers' questions. For my part, I will do everything to organize debates on the issue in the relevant committee supposedly on June 16 or 17,” he added.
