Kyrgyzstan plans to become a full member in the Customs Union (CU) by the end of this year, Prime Minister Djoomart Otorbaev told ITAR-TASS news agency of Russia.

“We will strive to fulfill all the obligations that are assumed within the framework of the [respective] ‘roadmap,’” Otorbaev stated.

In the Kyrgyz PM’s words, the aforesaid roadmap envisions the carrying out of all preparations by the year’s end.
The head of the Kyrgyz government also noted that he supports the idea of the country’s joining the economic union between Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia.

“The conceptual issue here is as follows: Do we want to build an open economy, or separate from our main trade partners? But since we seek an open economy from the very beginning, any initiative to build ‘fences’ will be drastically wrong,” Djoomart Otorbaev stated.
